How does Hireup work?
Hireup is an online platform that empowers people with disabilities to find, hire, and manage their own support workers. Our platform is designed to facilitate connections between clients and support workers who not only meet their support needs, but also align with their personal interests and things that are important to them.
All Hireup users need to create a personal profile that will describe themselves. A client will describe the types of support they are looking for. A support worker will describe their work experience and the type of support they can provide.
At Hireup, we prioritize choice and autonomy, allowing users to manage their support arrangements directly, while we handle the administrative aspects such as payroll, invoicing, super, tax, and reporting without long-term commitments and upfront fees.
We are dedicated to open and transparent communication, ensuring that our services align with the needs of each individual. For those who require support or wish to offer it, Hireup is a flexible and reliable platform, providing comprehensive insurance and support only for the hours facilitated through our platform.

Is Hireup different to a traditional support provider?
Yes, Hireup has removed the “middleman” from traditional disability service delivery. We connect people with a disability and support workers directly to provide one on one support. Hireup users are able to take complete control over when and how they work together. We do not schedule shifts on behalf of our users. At request of the client, Hireup has a number of additional services to assist clients with managing their account, support workers and bookings.
Hireup also costs a lot less than traditional service providers. As a national online platform, we are designed to work at scale, thereby keeping the cost of support work low for the individual. This means we can provide:
- comprehensive insurance cover
- industry leading worker wages
- super payments
- tax, payroll, invoicing and reporting services for everyone on the platform for a small fraction of the cost of traditional providers
By harnessing technology, Hireup is also promoting greater transparency and security within the disability sector. Safety is our number one priority and with effective online reporting procedures that are closely monitored by our Incident Team, we are able to set and maintain quality and safety standards.
Can I use Hireup and another agency at the same time?
Absolutely. We don’t ask for commitments or require you to sign exclusive contracts. There are no upfront-fees, obligations or lock-in terms. You can use Hireup to organise as few or as many hours of support as you need, and we only charge you for the hours you choose to process through our platform. Hireup can be your go-to solution, or a back-up for when your usual support is unavailable. This applies to both clients and our support workers.
It’s important to note that only shifts that are booked and paid for through the Hireup platform are covered by our comprehensive insurance, safety procedures and payroll, invoicing and tax services.
Does Hireup guarantee service?
Availability of Service
The availability of Hireup’s service depends on four key factors:
- Location – A client may be in a location that does not currently have any support workers available. If this is the case we can offer guidance on how to recruit support workers onto the platform.
- Support Worker Availability – A client may find that there are no existing workers in their area who are available to assist when support is required. In this instance, a client will be provided with guidance on how to recruit their own team on to the Hireup platform.
- Support Types – Some types of supports are not able to be provided on Hireup. We will work with the client to understand their requirements and assist in finding appropriate support if Hireup is not appropriate.
- Agency Managed Users – Hireup is currently registered with the NDIA in NSW, ACT, SA, QLD, VIC, WA and TAS. Agency managed users in other states and territories are not currently able to use their NDIS funding with Hireup.
Booking cancellations
Hireup encourages all clients and support workers to provide notice of cancelled shifts within our Statement on Cancellations. To ensure clients are not left without critical supports, Hireup recommends developing a range of support options, including a team of support workers who have a range of availability and relationships with service providers who can assist with 'on call support'. If you need assistance building a team of support workers we have a Personalised Support Services team that can help you here.
Suspension or Termination of service
If Hireup is made aware of any incidents or issues, which could be a breach of our Service Agreement, Employment Agreement, Code of Conduct or a Hireup Policy or Procedure, access to our platform may be suspended.
We understand that users seeking support need continuity of service, and we will work with you to develop an agreed continuity of service plan if you are suspended. For more information see our Statement on Service Access and Exit for Clients and Statement on Suspension and Termination for Disability Support Workers.
How does Hireup support carers?
At Hireup we recognise that carers play a vital role in providing daily care and support to people with disability.
Carers are people who provide personal care, support and assistance to another individual in need of support due to disability, medical condition, mental illness, or who is frail and aged. This does not include people who provide such support for payment, such as support workers on Hireup. We provide access to thousands of support workers so that people with disability can access reliable paid support and provide respite to their carers. Carers play an essential role in the lives of many people with disability and we recognise that the support provided by informal carers is often overlooked from an economic perspective. We also recognise that there is a shortage of services targeted towards carers to support their physical health, mental health and employment outcomes. We support the Statement for Australia's Carers. The Statement contains ten key principles that set out how carers should be treated and considered in service delivery settings.
Many clients on the Hireup platform have carers playing an important role in their lives. Find out about some of the ways Hireup works with carers:
- Our purpose is to enable the pursuit of a good life for everyone. We deliberately wrote our purpose to include more than people with disability, as we recognise the valuable roles played by carers, support workers, friends, family, and other professionals. We want to play a role in enabling everyone to pursue their good life.
- We provide access to thousands of support workers so that people with disability can access reliable support, providing respite for their carers.
- We support carers to be account managers on Hireup.
- We help carers understand their rights and responsibilities under the NDIS.
- We partner with other disability service providers who focus on supporting carers.
- We offer information and community connection events for people with a disability and their families .
