Hireup has rolled out permanent employment for our eligible support workers. For more information or to apply, check out our website.
Below are some answers to commonly asked questions.
I’ve applied for permanent employment but haven’t heard back?
If you have filled in the form on our website we will be in contact with you in a few weeks from your application. We have received a high number of applications and we need to assess each one.
How many equivalent days for annual leave, and sick leave? How is it accrued?
The leave accrues on a pro-rata basis as per the National Employment Standards.
For example, If you work 5 hours per week,
- After 6 months of service you would accrue personal leave (sick and carer’s leave) of 1 week at 5 hours per week.
- After 12 months of service you would accrue personal leave (sick and carer’s leave) of 2 weeks at 5 hours per week.
- After 6 months of service you would accrue annual leave of 2 weeks at 5 hours per week.
- After 12 months of service you would accrue annual leave of 4 weeks at 5 hours per week.
You can read more about leave on the Fair Work Ombudsman Website.
Permanent workers will need to submit leave requests via Keypay.
What is the minimum number of hours per week? What is the maximum number of hours I can work in the week?
It is based on your client(s) bookings. You can work up to 76 ordinary hours per fortnight.
You may work additional hours by confirming additional Bookings outside your Regular Hours (Additional Hours). Any additional Bookings must not conflict with your Regular Hours.
You are not permitted to work in excess of 38 hours per week or 76 hours per fortnight without prior written approval from Hireup.
My bookings on Hireup
We’re reviewing how we can make changes to our booking system to cater for our permanent employee model. This means that the rates that you will see on our platform will still be the rates applicable to casual workers. However, each pay cycle you will be issued a payslip with your correct rates and leave balances, which reflects the entitlements of a permanent employee. We will also provide you with a calculator that you can use anytime to calculate your wages. However, we will need your written confirmation that you accept that the rates you see on our platform will be the casual rates and that your payslip will contain the applicable permanent rates.
What are the guaranteed number of shifts each week?
As explained above, this is based on the hours provided by your client(s).
If I agreed to take the permanent role, does it mean I cannot pick up other casual work outside of my permanent hours? If yes, will I be paid the permanent or casual rate?
You can work additional hours but they will all be paid at the permanent rate. You can't have two employment statuses in the same job for the same company, you will have to be either permanent or casual.
What does this change look like? Can I make a comparison before making a decision?
There is a calculator you can download on our website - check out step 3 under the ‘Next Steps’ section.
How is superannuation calculated and different from my casual pay?
Superannuation is applied as per ATO legislation based on how much you earn. You can find out more on the ATO Website. You will no longer receive the casual loadings of 25% which is explained on our Website which also contains a calculator you can use to compare the differences between the casual and permanent rates.
What if I want to go back to being a casual employee?
It’s simple. You will just need to give the required notice (as per the SCHADs) to end the employment contract. We will issue you with a new casual contract that you will need to sign to become a casual employee again.
Does permanent part time employment impact my flexibility?
Hireup was built to give support workers flexibility and the ability to work on your terms. As part of this program you will be required to commit to working a minimum number of hours each week, so the arrangement will not be as flexible as casual employment. However, you will have the ability to propose what those minimum hours are, which we will agree on before the the permanent contract begins.
