The role of a Disability Support Worker can be diverse but it’s important to understand the types of support that are not permitted on the Hireup platform. Examples of tasks, duties or activities that fall outside of the Hireup Disability Support Worker job description include:
- Offline arrangements - means to arrange work outside of the Hireup platform with another Hireup user. This is a breach of the Support Worker employment contract (Clause 3.4) and Client service agreement (Clause 5.8). Hireup is unable to provide assistance if something goes wrong and shifts aren’t covered by Hireup. For more information, take a look at these Hireup articles Stick with Hireup and How should I navigate conversations about offline arrangements? or our website The Hireup Difference.
- Professional services - Workers are not permitted to perform any activity involving specialist education, training or skills. Even though a Worker may have specific qualifications, experience or capabilities, for example occupational therapy or speech therapy, bookkeeping, capacity to provide financial or investment advice, they’re not covered by Hireup insurance to provide support beyond the support worker job description. Support Workers also cannot witness legal documents on behalf of a Client or Account Manager. Support Workers can provide support in a general assistance capacity only and not in a professional advisory capacity.
- Supports which do not align with a Client’s NDIS goals - it is important that the support being provided clearly aligns with a Client’s support plan.
- Support for children, siblings or family members of the Hireup Client - Workers are there to provide direct support to the Client only. Parents are required to supervise their children when Support Workers are present with the Hireup Client, for example when performing tasks like after school care pick up and in-home support involving family members. Support Workers can support Clients with the care of their children if this is part of the Clients' NDIS goals and the Client is present. Support Workers are not permitted to care for the Clients' children when the Client is not present.
-
Support in a Worker’s home - for the safety and privacy of all our users, Support Workers are not able to provide support inside their own home. This is because there may be other residents in the support worker's home and do they have the required checks eg. NDIS worker screening check or Working with Children Check. Additionally, Hireup’s insurance would not cover any damage in the support worker’s home. If you do require your support to be provided in a Support Worker’s home, please contact Hireup on (02) 9113 5933 for assistance.
- Support Workers bringing their own equipment - while you can book a Support Worker for cleaning and gardening assistance, it’s important that Support Workers are only engaged in a Support Worker capacity. Hireup Support Workers are not permitted to provide their own equipment as this takes the booking beyond the Support Worker job description and into a professional service.
- Massage - therapeutic or remedial massages are outside the scope of a Support Worker’s role and should be done by a professional masseuse. Even if a Support Worker may have specific experience or qualifications, they are not covered by Hireup’s insurance to provide this type of support. However, Support Workers can provide a light massage provided they are comfortable to do so.
- Meal Preparation-Undertaking meal preparation outside of the Client’s home. Meal preparation is to be completed with the Client using their own cooking facilities.
