Whether you're driving your own car or your client's vehicle, safety is the top priority for you and your passengers. That's why we've created a simple tool: the Vehicle Inspection Checklist.
It's a straightforward pre-start check designed to help you quickly confirm a vehicle is safe before you begin your trip. It covers three key areas:
- Driver and Passenger Safety: Includes checks on your readiness to drive and trip planning.
- Visual Inspection: Covers checks on the vehicle's exterior, such as tires, fluid leaks, and visibility.
- Operational Checks: Ensures all critical functions, like lights, brakes, horn, and seatbelts, are working correctly.
Using this checklist ensures the vehicle is safe to use for work purposes and protects you, your client, and Hireup in the event of an incident.
We encourage you to use the checklist regularly. There's even a Weekly Inspection Log at the back of the document to help you keep track of your inspections throughout the week.
If You're Driving Your Client's Vehicle
When driving your client's car, you should complete all the standard vehicle checks. It's also recommended to take extra time to get to know the vehicle before you hit the road. Simple unfamiliarities can become an issue while driving, and the distraction can put you at a higher risk of an incident.
Before setting off, make sure you:
- Confirm any special equipment or mobility aid requirements.
- Set up and adjust the driving position and controls, such as mirrors, seats, and AC.
- Understand any unfamiliar or new technologies fitted to the vehicle, as they can become a distraction if you don’t.
We encourage you to use the checklist regularly! There's even a Weekly Inspection Log at the back of the document to help you keep track of your inspections throughout the week.
There is both a digital version of the Vehicle Inspection Checklist and a printable version that you can download and keep in your vehicle.
