Creating your Hireup account
You do not need any experience or qualifications in disability support to become a Hireup support worker. People seeking support on Hireup want to connect with workers from all backgrounds and experience levels. To get started, you need to complete our pre-employment checks. To create your Hireup account, visit our website.
Tip: We recommend completing the sign-up process on a computer (instead of a phone or tablet) and using Google Chrome (instead of Safari, Internet Explorer, or Firefox).
What you will need
For information on all documentation that you will require, please check out our article What do I need to register as a Support Worker.
Work-related visa policy
If you are on an international visa, please contact our applications team at hello@hireup.com.au to see whether we can accept your visa type if it is not listed in the What do I need to register as a Support Worker article.
Completing Profile Details
During your onboarding with Hireup, you'll have different times throughout the process to update your Hireup profile.
The best way to see what is required to be done is to log in to Hireup and check the dashboard for any to-do tasks without a lock, similar to the example below:
Complete each section of your profile
Complete each section of your profile to ensure the client has relevant information about the support you can provide. Once CITED verifies your documents, you can complete your profile.
Availability
We recommend listing all your available hours to increase your opportunities. Offering more availability than your target weekly hours provides greater flexibility and improves your chances of being matched. Please also keep your availability updated as you accept recurring shifts.
Support types to provide
Hireup offers eight distinct categories of support, and you may customise your support type preferences within your account settings at any time. Select any support areas that you feel comfortable providing.
If you wish to provide transport support or work with clients under 18, please indicate these preferences in your profile. These roles require additional documentation verification before you can accept related bookings.
Specialised Supports
You may select from a wide range of specialised supports in this section. It is essential to only choose those for which you have demonstrated experience and confidence. If there are areas of specialised support you want to develop, we recommend including these details in your profile bio and discussing them with potential clients. Once you have gained the necessary experience and proficiency, you may add these to your specialised supports selection.
Profile Photo and Bio
A detailed, vibrant profile helps you connect with the right clients. Keep your bio, profile photo, support types, and availability up to date to ensure your profile accurately reflects who you are.
Profile Photo
Example of optimal close-up profile photos below: in both photos, the ladies are smiling and look approachable.
Examples of photos not to use below include not smiling, not looking at the camera, and being too far away to see facial features:
About you - Your bio
Use your bio to introduce yourself, highlighting who you are and what you enjoy doing as a support worker. Include the following:
- Experience & Qualifications: Briefly summarise your background. Even if you're new to support work, sharing experience in other fields (e.g., hospitality or IT) can be valuable. Lived experience is also valuable; mention any lived experience you may have that you are comfortable sharing.
- Personal Traits: Describe your personality as a worker, including affiliations or characteristics like being LGBTQIA+ friendly or a non-smoker—these details help clients find the right match.
- Unique Interests: Be specific about your hobbies (e.g., favourite music artists, sports teams, video games). Many clients search using these keywords, so don't hesitate to share what you love, whether it's knitting, sports, or anime.
