The Job Board is designed to help HIreup users quickly connect, whether they are Clients looking for support or Workers seeking work. It’s a great way to connect with a support worker for one-off shifts or to build out a support team. Taking the time to craft a great job post can lead to you making faster and better connections:
- It helps Hireup match your job to support workers with the right skills
- It helps support workers better decide if your job is a good fit before applying
- It helps reduce back-and-forth messaging
For Clients: It is a vital tool for finding and hiring Hireup support workers who share your interests and meet your support needs. It allows you to source workers for last-minute needs, build out your existing team, or find support in different locations.
For Workers: It offers a centralised space to browse and respond to job listings. Additionally, Workers receive notifications when a new job is posted in their area, simplifying the process of finding local work opportunities.
Before posting a job or searching for jobs, please ensure you have reviewed the types of support that workers can't provide on Hireup.

How to Post a Job (for Clients)
Step 1 - Start the Process
On the web platform, you can find the job board in the top navigation bar.
From there, you can click the blue button on the left that says “Post a new job.”
On the app, you can select the “New Job” icon in the top right-hand corner (under your profile icon)
Note: from here on, the screenshots below will only be in a desktop web view, but the information also applies to our mobile applications.
Step 2 - Your Job Details
You will first be prompted to complete the Job Details section, where you will need to describe the job in detail.
TOP TIP!: Use this space to be specific about what workers will be doing on their shifts with you. Also include any essential information or job requirements the worker needs to know before applying.
Describe what will happen on your job and what you’d like from a worker. This is a great opportunity to introduce yourself, your goals, the support you require, and what you want in a support worker. Avoid using acronyms where possible to avoid any confusion. Some things to consider:
-
Be clear on what skills, experience and personal qualities you expect
- “I am looking for a support worker who can work regularly, is reliable, and is looking for long-term shifts. Ideally they should own a car to be able to transport me to my appointments.”
- “I would prefer someone who shares my cultural identity. My family and I are Chinese. Someone with an Asian cultural heritage would be amazing, to help me engage with my culture.”
-
Elaborate on the support activities required during the shift
- “I need support for a 2-hour morning shift every second week. The first half of the shift would include showering, dressing, and breakfast; the other half would involve helping me with cleaning and odd jobs around the house.”
-
Include whether you expect to have an initial Meet and Greet with the support worker:
- “Before we work together regularly, I would like to meet you for a relaxed meet and greet so we can get to know each other better. Ideally this would be in person at a coffee shop near my home in Manly”
- “I need to organise a meet and greet before regular shifts are booked. I’m happy to video call or phone call any potential workers.”
-
Finish off by encouraging the worker to message you on the platform if they are available and interested:
- “If you think this would work for you, please send me a message as I would love to hear from you.”
- “If you are interested, please send me a message with a bit about yourself, your experience and why you think we’d be a good fit.”
Step 3 - Where and When
Next up is adding where the shift will take place. The Job Board is set to your own suburb by default, but you can change the location of the job by selecting the Edit button to the far right of the Location field.
Next is how often this shift will occur. Here you have three options:
- One-off - this job will only occur once
- Weekly - this job will take place at this time every week
- Fortnightly - this job will take place at this time every two weeks
From here, you’ll add the timing of your job. Different options will become available depending on what you selected for “How often is this job?”:
-
When do you need this job to start?
- On a specific date - this means the shift needs to take place on a specific date and time (typically, like transport to an appointment or filling in a shift because your regular worker is on holiday). If you’re a bit flexible with the time, like an evening routine that could be at 5:00 or 5:30 PM, you can also select that option.
- I’m flexible - this means your job isn’t date-sensitive and you can be flexible with a worker’s availability. With this option, you can still provide your preferred days or even let workers know you’re open to their suggestions.
-
Which days do you need support?
- You can select multiple days in this field
TOP TIP!: Be as specific as you can about when you need support, so workers can assess their schedules. This increases the likelihood that applicants will be available for your job. If you’re flexible with the timing, let workers know by ticking the box - this increases the number of workers that may be available.
Step 4 - Your Worker Preferences
Next is your worker preferences. These are set to your profile’s preferences by default, but you can change this by selecting the Edit button to the far right of the Worker Preferences field.
We know that you may have preferences regarding gender, age, or other factors in your potential workers. This is your opportunity to add that information, and we’ll use it to ensure we show jobs only to workers who match those preferences.
Please note we aren’t able to 100% match the “other qualities”, and we recommend sticking to keywords, for example: ‘LGBTQ+ friendly’, ‘music teacher’ or ‘speaks Mandarin’.
TOP TIP: If you have certain worker preferences in mind, include them in your job post so we can match you with workers that are right for you. If these preferences are not important to you, leave this open so more workers are invited to apply!
Now you’re ready to post! Once you’ve clicked “Post job”, it will be published to the Job board, and workers will be able to view it.
Important to note: Workers can only see the details you include in your job post. Your Support Plan remains private and is only visible to workers after you have created a Booking Request with them.
Step 5 - Select a Worker and Book!
When workers apply for your job, you’ll receive an email and/or push notification letting you know they've applied. Workers will be required to include a message when they apply for your Job.
Navigate to the Job Board and select “Open”. You can then select the job you want to interact with and open “Job applicants”.
You can then view the message that was included in the worker’s application. You can also open their profile to find out more about them.
If there is a worker(s) you’re interested in learning more about, you can private message them directly.
TOP TIP!: We strongly recommend that you organise a Meet and Greet to assess whether a worker will be a good fit for you.
If you’re not interested in a worker, please select “Not suitable”.
When you’ve found a worker you want to book, select “Request booking” to start the booking process!
How to use the Job Board (for Workers)
Step 1 - Navigate to the Job Board
-
Select Job Board from the top menu
- If you’re in the app, open the menu by tapping your profile photo.
Step 2 - Search Jobs
Search for jobs near you by entering your suburb and the distance you're willing to travel, then select any of the filter options you require. Please ensure you then click Apply Filters when ready to search.
Step 3 - Apply for Jobs
If you discover any jobs you’re interested in, open the Client’s profile to learn more about them and their support needs. If you’re ready to apply for the job, select the “Apply for this job” button.
Only apply for Jobs you are qualified for or where you match the Client’s requirements. For example, if the Client is requesting a specific gender, please don’t apply if you don’t meet this requirement.
You will then be prompted to explain to the Client why you’re a good fit. This will be an open-text field where you can describe yourself, your experience, and your qualifications for this specific job. It really helps if you include information you noticed in the Job or on the Client’s profile that caught your interest - try to establish a connection and find common ground!
After submitting an application, if you change your mind and no longer want to register your interest in a Job, simply open the Job again and select ‘Withdraw application’.
Clients may have many applicants, and it can take them time to decide on the right worker. This means you may need to apply for several jobs to secure a booking. So don’t be disheartened if you’re not selected for a job! Continue browsing the available jobs and apply for the ones you’re a good fit for.
