At Hireup, we recognise that ‘safety’ isn’t just about preventing slips, trips and falls, it’s also about protecting your mental wellbeing. In line with Safe Work Australia’s Model Code of Practice: Managing psychosocial hazards at work, we are reviewing our Psychosocial Hazard Risk Assessment to ensure our workers thrive in a safe, supportive environment.
Understanding Psychosocial Hazards
A psychosocial hazard is anything in the design or management of work that increases the risk of psychological or physical harm. These include:
- Job demands
- Job insecurity
- Fatigue
- Poor support
- Lack of role clarity
- Poor organisational change management
- Inadequate award recognition
- Poor organisational justice
- Traumatic events or material
- Low job control
- Remote or isolated work
- Intrusive surveillance
- Poor physical environment
- Violence and aggression
- Bullying
- Harassment including sexual harassment
- Conflict or poor workplace relationships & interactions
Psychosocial Hazard Risk Assessment
Hireup is undertaking its second Psychosocial Hazard Risk Assessment (the first was in 2023). The risk assessment will commence with the People At Work survey running from the 12th of February 2026 for four weeks. The People At Work survey tool is Australia’s only validated psychosocial risk assessment survey, developed by workplace health and safety regulators. The survey is anonymous and your individual response is strictly confidential. Hireup only sees aggregated data. The survey will be shared with all active workers and aims to identify psychosocial hazards in the Hireup workplace.
Following the survey focus groups will be held to further understand the hazards identified in the survey. We’ll take what we learned from the survey and focus groups to look at what’s already in place, decide what needs to change or what safeguards need to be developed. This isn’t a one off - we’ll keep checking in to make sure these changes are effective. Risk management is a collaborative process. We encourage everyone to participate in the survey and focus group discussions to ensure your voice is heard.
