When answering a job board post or reaching out to a client after searching their profile, your first message is so important. Think of it like an informal job application.
Your first message should include:
- A polite greeting
- Your availability to provide support
- Any relevant experience to the type of support required
- Why you think you might be a good fit for the client and the type of support they require. Do you have a specific or similar interest to the client? If the client has not personalised their profile or job post with their interests it’s even more important for you as the worker to include your personal interests on your profile and in your first message.
If you’re unsure where to start, here’s a template you can use:
Hi [client or account manager name],
I’m interested in supporting you with ______ and think we would be a good fit due our similar interest in _____.
I have experience in _______/ Or I’m fairly new to support work though am eager to learn how I can best support you.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
[Your name].
