At Hireup, our vision is to enable a good life for people with disabilities and older Australians by empowering them with choice, control, and tailored support through an innovative, technology-driven platform. Our commitment to the safe, ethical, and responsible use of AI supports this vision, ensuring that technology enhances, rather than replaces, the human connections that matter most.
Why We Use AI
We adopt AI to improve the Hireup experience for our clients, providers and support workers through:
- Enhanced matching and discovery: helping our community find the right support workers based on availability, skills and compatibility.
- Safety and quality monitoring: We may leverage AI to flag unusual activity patterns and potential risks for human review.
- Communication assistance: AI may help draft or suggest support requests, messages, summaries and notifications.
- Efficiency: Streamlining administrative tasks so our team can focus on providing high-quality human support.
How We Use AI Responsibly
We believe that technology is only as good as the people who use it.
- Approved Use Cases: We maintain an internal register. AI is only used in specific, approved areas that have passed our safety and privacy benchmarks.
- Human-in-the-Loop: We do not use AI to make automated, final decisions regarding people’s lives, support or employment. Hireup staff are required to verify AI-generated content, exercising critical thinking and judgment to ensure accuracy and suitability and they remain fully accountable for every decision.
- AI Bias Mitigation: We are committed to actively identifying and addressing potential bias within our AI systems. Our main focus is on preventing any disadvantage to specific groups, including people with disability, First Nations people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and older Australians.
- Data Minimisation: We only use personal information that is absolutely necessary for the AI system to do its job. Sensitive information, such as disability information and health data, is treated with the highest level of care and is subject to our Privacy Policy.
- Approved AI tooling: Hireup staff are restricted to using only AI tools that have successfully passed our rigorous security assessment process.
Where AI Adds Value at Hireup
- Data Insights: Helping us understand community needs to build a better platform.
- Productivity: Summarising complex information to help our teams provide faster, more accurate advice to our users.
- Fraud Detection: Automatically identifying unusual patterns to protect NDIS and aged care funding and user security.
- Relationship management: Assisting our teams in navigating complex policy and compliance requirements.
What AI Does Not Decide
AI on the Hireup platform is designed to support choice, not to make choices for people. AI may recommend, suggest, or surface options. It does not:
- Make decisions about who a client can work with.
- Prevent someone from connecting with a support worker they have chosen.
- Remove a support worker from the platform without human review.
All significant outcomes, including but not limited to worker deactivation, account suspension, and formal compliance actions, are reviewed and confirmed by a human Hireup team member.
Our Governance Commitment
To ensure AI remains a force for good, we are committed to the following principles:
- Security & Approval: We will only utilise AI tools with personal or sensitive information after rigorous security assessments have been conducted and a mandatory risk assessment has been completed and approved for use by the Chief Product and Technology Officer.
- Transparency & Feedback: We will label AI features so the community understands that they are engaging with an AI agent or system and make it easy for the community to give us feedback.
- Monitoring & Guardrails: We will continuously monitor AI outputs to prevent bias and ensure technical guardrails are functioning.
There will always be a named person at Hireup accountable for every AI system we operate. We monitor, test, and review our AI systems regularly.
Our Promise to the Community
We are committed to using AI in a way that is lawful, ethical, and beneficial to the disability and aged care sector. We will continue to evolve our internal policies, covering everything from record-keeping and security to procurement, to ensure they reflect the pace of technological change and the needs of our users.
We are committed to addressing any issues quickly. If you believe an AI system has produced a harmful, biased, or incorrect outcome, or if you have any concerns about our use of AI, please report it via the Hireup feedback form so we can investigate promptly.
Hireup will continue to update this transparency statement as we implement new technologies, always with the goal of protecting our community and helping every person live the life they choose.
