What are Booking Requests?
Booking Requests are a new feature on the Hireup platform that allow clients to send shift requests to up to 10 support workers at once. This new feature streamlines the booking process, providing more flexibility and opportunities for support workers.
What do I need to know?
The faster you respond, the more likely you are to secure the shift. Booking Requests work on a first-come, first-served basis—the first worker to accept gets confirmed immediately. No waiting, no uncertainty.
Why this matters for you:
- Pick up more shifts: Receive real-time notifications for new bookings requests from clients. Speed is your competitive advantage - respond quickly to notifications to pick up more shifts.
- Less admin, more choice: Skip back-and-forth discussions about availability, booking requests make it easy to view, accept, and manage shifts that suit your preferences.
- Build trust and reliability: Being responsive and available helps you build trust and become a go-to support for regular clients.
- No more wondering: When a client sends a booking request, the first worker to accept is confirmed, meaning you’ll know right away if the shift is yours.
Shifts, on your terms: View shift details at a glance and respond quickly to secure work while it’s available. Choose what fits and decline what doesn’t, ideal for picking up extra shifts when it suits you.
How to maximize your opportunities
1. Enable push notifications (Critical!)
When a booking request is sent, you receive both an email and a push notification. Here's why enabling push notifications is essential:
- Push notifications appear instantly on your phone screen - even when you're not actively checking
- Emails may sit unread in your inbox while you're busy
- The first to respond gains the shift - push notifications give you the fastest alert possible
Action required: Make sure push notifications are enabled on your device so you never miss an opportunity.
2. Respond to every request—even if you decline
Why declining matters:
- It helps clients know they need to find other workers quickly (especially for last-minute shifts)
- It keeps your reputation strong as a responsive, professional worker
- It keeps the platform moving efficiently - failing to respond to requests can impact how often you're sent future opportunities
3. Check details and act quickly
- View the suburb and shift details directly in the request
- If it suits you, accept immediately to secure it
- If it doesn't work, decline promptly so the client can move forward
How it works:
When you receive a request:
- Push notification appears on your phone (if enabled)
- Email is sent to your registered address
- Tap the notification or email link to view full shift details including the complete address
Accepting or declining:
- Requests sent to multiple workers show a "Be the first to accept" tag
- If the shift is still available, you'll see options to Accept or Decline
- Once you accept, it becomes a confirmed booking instantly
- If another worker has already accepted, you'll see it's no longer available
Bottom line: The faster you respond to Booking Requests, the more shifts you'll secure. Enable push notifications and keep your app updated to stay competitive.
